If you could be any object located in the Main Street District, what would you be and why?
I would be the cornice on the Doyne Building. It’s one of the oldest buildings in the district and commands the highest vantage point of the most strategic intersection in Farmville, let alone our Main Street District. Everything visible that’s happened and will happen in our downtown can be seen from atop that building. What a view!
How did you find your way to Farmville?
I had never heard of Farmville until I saw Downtown Farmville’s posting for their first Executive Director position in the National Main Street Career Center. I submitted my resume, we talked, we visited, we e-mailed. On October 2 of that year, I moved to Farmville. My family followed the next spring.
Who asked you to become a part of Farmville Downtown Partnership? Why did you say “yes”?
Chuck Ross was chair of the Search Committee for Downtown Farmville. He officially issued the invitation for me to join the organization as its Executive Director. After going through the interview process and researching Farmville, my family and Iwere intrigued with the possibilities. Then we visited here for my in-person interview and fell in love with the town and its people. After 2-1/2 years, we know we made the right choice – and that’s a big compliment coming from a lifelong Georgian.
