Downtown Film Series is pleased to open the seventeenth season of Stars Under the Stars on June 13 with some swashbuckling adventure! It’s “All for one, and one for all!” as Gene Kelly stars in The Three Musketeers (1948, Not Rated).
Kelly stars as D’Artagnan, a young man on his way to this link Paris to join the famous King’s Musketeers. He encounters trouble along the way, but nevertheless makes his way to Paris where he soon meets three of the skilled Musketeers: Athos, Porthos, and Aramis. Before they can get their obligatory duels out of the way, they have a confrontation with men sent by the villainous Richelieu (Vincent Price). D’Artagnan helps the three men in the ensuing duel and afterward is welcomed to the Musketeer ranks.
A tale of indiscretions and missing jewels follows, and it’s up to the Musketeers to try and prevent a war from breaking out between Britain and France. While there have been many screen adaptations of Alexander Dumas’ famous novel, this is your chance to see Gene Kelly’s famous choreography skills set to swordfighting–all on the big screen in gorgeous Technicolor!
